I want to delete my gmail account from my mobile. I have already tried the instructions given in the help section but it did not work. Please suggest me, how to do this?
This issue is not related with MIUI or Mobile. Its a Gmail issue as Google does not provide any official way to delete your Gmail account from anywhere. You can only disable it to stop sending mail from that account but you cannot delete your Gmail account entirely.
I have been having this issue for the last 8 months now and finally I found a way to delete my Gmail Account completely as well as permanently so no one could access it even if they somehow gain access to my phone.
Step by step guide to permanently delete your Gmail account:
First of all I am going to delete the account from my phone and then completely delete it. If you do not want any one gaining access to your mail even if they somehow get access to your phone after deleting it, follow these steps:
1) Go to settings >>> Accounts >>> Gmail (account name) >>> hit menu key and then click on “Remove account”
2) If the above method doesn’t work. Try this one: Settings >>> Applications >>> Manage applications >>> All tab >>> Find Gmail, tap it, then clear data and cache. Restart your Mi Phone and check mail settings, if it is removed, delete Gmail account from your phone.
3) After deleting it permanently on your phone, go to this link: https://m.gmail.com/ and sign in with your gmail account (the one you deleted). Now click on “Delete my account” and follow the instructions given there. They will ask for a verification code which they will send to the registered mobile number of your Google Account or Android Device where you have deleted Gmail Account from Step 1 above. So make sure that any other person does not know this number as he can still access your mail using it if he somehow gets access to your phone/Google Account etc.
Follow the instructions, enter verification code and *POOF* your Gmail account will be completely deleted.
No one can access it now even if he gets access to your Google Account or phone.
One more thing, you will not be able to login/sign in with Gmail account ever again so please take a note of important mails etc stored there. In case you forgot about some important mail earlier and want to retrieve it after permanently deleting Gmail account, use this link: https://mail.google.com/mail/#inbox/u/0/?lwfr&compose=true but remember that they have 30 days retention policy so no guarantee that the mail is still on their server. Also make sure that any other person does not have access to your Google account as well as delete all your gmail contacts from your Android device.
Here is another way to do it effectively in any android device:
Step 1 – Remove the Gmail account from your Phone Settings and clear data from all gmail related app which are usually present within system apps folder in your phone, mostly these apps start with “G”.
Step 2 – Log into you Gmail Account and select “Delete Your Account” option by clicking on link given below: https://www.google.com/settings/deleteaccount?pli=1 (Required Google ID for login) After doing this step, they will ask for verification code which they will send to your registered mobile number within Gmail.
Step 3 – After receiving the code, enter it into email address which you use for login into Google account and press next button; now there will be a verification process where they will ask “Do you want to permanently delete your account?” just ignore this step, then click on withdraw confirmation link given at the bottom of page.
Step 4 – Now if you try to log in to your google account with same ID which had been used in Step 2, it should show following message “Your account has been deleted” as shown below:
Please note that above method only completely deletes the Google Account from the [email protected] server but not from your phone; in fact the only way to completely delete your Google Account and stored data from your phone is by doing a factory reset / wipe – which means that you have to re-install your ROM (the reason why it is not recommended).
If you don’t want someone else gaining access to your email, then follow these steps:
1) Go to settings >>> Accounts >>> Gmail (account name) >>> hit menu key and then click on “Remove account”
2) If the above method doesn’t work. Try this one: Settings >>> Applications >>> Manage applications >>> All tab >>> Find Gmail, tap it, then clear data and cache. Restart your Mi Phone and check mail settings, if it is removed, you are done. If not, continue to next step (The same process applies to all other Google services)
3) Settings >>> Accounts >>> Google >>> tap account name at the bottom right hand corner and hit “Remove from device”
NOTE: Keep in mind that above steps will remove your Gmail ID permanently; it won’t be deleted or reset on their servers. If you want them gone from their server as well, read below:
For above two following methods, you have to login into your gmail id and then follow the mentioned instructions so make sure that no one else is using/logged into your google account while doing this. Also if someone knows your password he can still get access to mail data by getting into your account through server.
First Method:
Go to https://mail.google.com/settings/security
Scroll Down and Hit “Remove your account” then follow the instructions provided by Google and you are done !!!
Second Method :
1) Go to your gmail login page https://www.gmail.com/
2) Click on “Sign Out” at the top right-hand corner of the browser window as shown below:
3) After doing this, go to https://www.gmail.com/accounts/?next=/settings/delete from any other computer connected to internet but make sure that no one is logged into google account or in case he knows password he can still get data so do it when no one is aware of this !!!
4) Choose the option “Delete Gmail completely” and follow instructions, you are done !!!
Now there should be only two option left on the google account i.e. (Sign in to gmail) & (Forgot password), But again if anyone who knows your password can get access through server so make sure that he/she doesn’t know your password before following either of these options as shown below:
1) Click on “Forgot Password?” link and then follow the instructions provided and change your password after doing this; also add recovery email id’s in case you forget new password for future references and don’t forget to delete all other email accounts from your phone (if you don’t want someone else getting access to them).
