Hi, this is a blog post explaining how to remove a Google account from Windows. It’s important to note that you need to be signed in as an administrator on your computer before taking any of the steps below.
If you’re not sure if you are signed in as an administrator, please check by clicking the “Start” menu and selecting “Computer.” Underneath your name should say either “Administrator” or “User.” If it says Administrator, then continue with these steps. If it says User instead, click on the word “Users” next to your name and select “Add User,” type in a user name for yourself (anything will work) and enter a password twice when prompted for one before continuing.
Here are the steps to remove a Google account from Windows, this guide only works for PCs, not Macs:
1.) Click on the “Start” menu and select “Control Panel” at the top.
2.) Once in Control Panel, click “User Accounts” under “Accounts.” This will bring up two options: User accounts or Family Safety. Select “Add or remove user accounts.”
3.) When you see this screen, scroll all the way down until you find your name (or yourself) listed under “Other users’ accounts.” If it says Administrator next to your name, click on it once so only “Administrator” is selected and continue with the steps below. If it doesn’t say Administrator and you’re not sure if it’s saying either “Administrator” or “User,” click on the word “Users” next to your name and select “Change my account type” under “Other users’ accounts” to verify if your account is an administrator or a standard user account.
4.) Once you’ve verified that your Google account is currently signed in as an administrator, right-click on your name (or yourself) and select “Delete the account.” This will bring up a prompt asking if you want to delete the account, make sure “Also delete all files and folders associated with this account” is checked and then click OK.
5.) This screen will appear. Click “OK” and the account associated with your Google account (or you) will be deleted from Windows! You may be prompted to re-enter your administrator password after the account has been removed, but this is only temporary and doesn’t affect anything else.
Open the Google website and log in to your Gmail account. Select “Account” from the grid icon in the upper right corner. click “Delete your account or services” under the “Account preferences” heading. Select “Delete products.”
