The worst part is, even when I don\u2019t have any Google account in the phone, it kept trying to add one\u2026 without success. It\u2019s stuck on a loop of adding and failed at \u201cRegistration failed\u201d. Below are steps to get pass this deadlock:<\/p>\n<p>1) Boot into recovery mode and wipe data\/factory reset the phone \u2013 It seemed reasonable for me to do that first since basically all apps were gone anyway and all settings wiped out\u2026 just some personal data remained as I have backup. It did not work and bootloop keeps going<\/p>\n<p>2) Boot into TWRP recovery (use Google for that) \u2013 mostly same functionality as your standard Android recovery mode but it lets you do advanced things like install a ROM without flashing any partition from the system, which is great when you no longer have the stock recovery. Again\u2026 bootloop continues to loop: Registration failed<\/p>\n<p>3) Boot into TWRP backup restore mode then flash stock ROM followed by GApps package(s) (makes phone running again) \u2013 I like this option better because it allows you to go back easily should something causes the phone to brick. You do need one working phone though if not already rooted on your phone. I personally install the ROM via ADB push (dd if=blah.zip of=\/dev\/block\/mmcblk0p34)\u2026 but that\u2019s because I hate TWRP GUI and prefer command line. You can also just use Windows File Explorer to copy it over, or USB cable to connect your phone with your computer and transfer the zip file\u2026<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"ast-oembed-container\" style=\"height: 100%;\"><iframe allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"900\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/m1XjMzmwyP8?feature=oembed\" title=\"How to delete Google Account from Android phone without factory reset\" width=\"1200\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>In case you don\u2019t know how to root your phone\u2026 here are 3 methods that worked for me: one | two | three [EDIT]: crazybark has a much better rooting guide here<\/p>\n<p>Note: in order to remove your Google account from your phone, you have to first set a pattern lock so make sure you do that part as well. However, after you\u2019ve successfully finished this guide and still can\u2019t get your Google account off the phone by factory reset methods above, then it\u2019s possible that Google has already added some security on the phone even without your approval. You could call them up, but I\u2019m sure they just send you a procedure to remove an account rather than go through all these trouble together. After getting back everything (except my data which was synced with my Google), I re-add the Google account to make sure it works again.. but still stuck in loop! So now I\u2019ve decided to NEVER EVER add any google account onto ANY of my devices\u2026<\/p>\n<p>4) After flashing stock ROM + GApps package, put back only important apps from Play Store and boot into newly installed ROM (which is stock) \u2013 This method is good if you don\u2019t want to lose anything, but I personally hate it because I need to remove most of unwanted apps first. After rebooting\u2026 YIPEE!!!\u2026 It doesn\u2019t work anymore! It\u2019s still stuck on loop<\/p>\n<p>5) Repeat 1 \u2013 4, except install a clean Android 5.0 AOSP ROM so it won\u2019t try to sync with any GApps package again \u2013 this worked for me! No more \u201cRegistration failed\u201d loop. However, there was still the issue of Google account that has been added earlier. If you are trying to remove account data and info accessed on the device, I\u2019m afraid it\u2019s quite impossible without a factory reset or ADB backup\/restore. But before we proceed further, let me quickly explain what exactly Google Account does on Android devices:<\/p>\n<p>Google Account is not an application; it is rather a special process (available as part of the Google Services Framework) which allows applications to access certain information and features provided by the user\u2019s Google account such as Gmail, Calendar, etc. The actual data is stored in databases on the device, and not in any way managed by the Google Account process. So while you can get rid of all Google Apps very easily, your account will remain intact. The easiest way to remove it is to perform a factory reset, which will delete all applications and their data as well as the accounts on the phone (In case you want to keep your contacts and SMS messages separate from your Gmail inbox, then enable sync with a local account).<\/p>\n<p>To achieve this: (1) Uncheck \u201cBack up my data\u201d at Settings&gt;Backup &amp; Reset;(2) Perform factory reset via Recovery mode -&gt; Wipe data\/factory reset;and (3) In case an ADB backup was created beforehand, restore it through ADB. Note: restoring an ADB backup will erase all data and installed apps on your device; so be sure you\u2019ve checked \u201cBack up my data\u201d option at the above step before proceeding with this.<\/p>\n<p>If for some reason, you don\u2019t want to use a factory reset but rather wipe out just the accounts and its information (in order to sell the phone or transfer it to someone else), then I have two more options for you:<\/p>\n<p>Option 1 \u2013 Wipe \u2018Google Accounts\u2019 Data Only Using Recovery Mode\/ADB Backup Manager Application First of all, enable USB Debugging under Settings&gt;Developer Options, then in case you don\u2019t have one already, setup ADB on your computer by following this guide . Next, download Recovery Mode\/ADB Backup Manager from Play Store : . Then, connect your phone to PC and open the application. Press \u201cBackup\u201d button to archive data related to Google accounts on the device. (If you get an error message about how there is not enough space left on device to create a backup then: a) install another app which can be backed up in offline mode ; b) try wiping out accounts using Option 2 below; c) restore this backup after wiping accounts.) After that, press \u201cFactory reset\u201d option under Main Menu for running similar operation as described above (i.e. wipe out Google Accounts info without factory reset).<\/p>\n<p>Option 2 \u2013 Wipe Individual Account Data Directly Using ADB Commands On your computer, download and unzip the file located here which contains all necessary ADB commands for wiping out accounts on a device. Read the instructions carefully before proceeding with this. Note: you must have an unlocked phone if you\u2019re using non-standard firmware or custom ROM!
