The following is the detail of what happened: This all happened on Jan 16 this year (while I am still in China), I did not pay much attention giving them any reply until now, May 18, 2016, when I received another email from booking com as follow: This happens about 11 months later; I find an email from booking com and they are asking me why my card details can not be removed. Have a look at the screenshot below: I believe that these guys are selling my credit card data to other companies to increase their revenues. Click here for instructions on how to enable Javascript in your browser\u2026.<\/p>\n<h2>Why would anyone want to steal your Credit Card Details?<\/h2>\n<p>Anyone who steals even a few numbers will have access to hundreds of thousands of dollars from the cardholders\u2019 purchase and cash withdrawal history.<\/p>\n<h2>Credit Cards are not secure anymore, because?<\/h2>\n<p>1. The magnetic strip has no protection against hacking or skimming. It is possible for a hacker to clone it in just 2 minutes into another magnetic strip. Even worse, today\u2019s credit cards come with embedded chips that store the same information on the card\u2019s magnetic strip through radio frequency identification (RFID). There is still no technology known that can prevent this type of hacking. If thieves get hold of an RFID-enabled card, they can use a reader to steal the card data and encode it onto another card.<\/p>\n<p>2. No anti-fraud measures: there is a developing cottage industry of fraud prevention that uses methods like one-time credit card numbers, \u201crolling\u201d addresses, text messaging alerts about pending charges, or requiring certified calls from customers when unusual activity occurs on their accounts\u2026credit cards don\u2019t have any of this at all! The only way for you to know if a charge is fraudulent is to catch the culprit in the act and dispute it with your credit card company afterward. While many people take steps to check their statements closely each month, identifying unauthorized activity requires an extremely high level of vigilance which few individuals possess. Not only do American businesses make nearly 10 billion dollars annually by charging consumers interest and fees on late payments, they also charge every time they have to pay for customer disputes resulting from defective merchandise or billing errors. While banks and other financial institutions are required by law to correct any errors in your bill, again the burden of proof is on YOU to alert them when there\u2019s a mistake.<\/p>\n<h2>So What Should You Do?<\/h2>\n<p>Here are 5 tips we suggest everyone follow at all times: 1) Keep your credit cards away from portable readers that can steal your card data. If you must carry it with you, instead of putting your card in a pocket or wallet where it can be easily skimmed by wireless scanners, keep them encased in a special RFID-blocking sleeve. 2) Buy your products from the \u201cbrick and mortar\u201d stores whenever possible; online retailers offer less consumer protection than their store counterparts. 3) Always check your credit card bill closely to make sure that all charges are valid. 4) Keep an eye on your bank accounts to see if anyone is trying to take money out without permission and notify authorities immediately if anything appears suspicious 5) Finally, always call the phone number on the back of your credit card BEFORE using it \u2013 otherwise you may end up paying thousands of dollars in unnecessary interest charges.<\/p>\n<p>We need to come together and protect ourselves from this new greed virus before it spreads even further across the global cyber-community. And because $900 is a lot of money for an ordinary shopper like my friend, she immediately started to panic. For half an hour she was on the phone with customer support from each and every card issuing bank trying to figure out what had happened. The banks kept assuring her that there was nothing wrong with their system or security; rather it was some sort of glitch in either her computer or credit card machine\u2026 But after several hours of troubleshooting the issue, she\u2019d had enough. She was frustrated and angry that her day wasn\u2019t getting any better\u2026 So she ended up deciding just to drive down to the closest bank branch in person to try and fix this once and for all.
