How to close an Amazon AWS account

You can remove your credit card number from the ‘Manage Payment Options’ page on the AWS console. For more information about removing a credit card, see Attach and detach Elastic IP addresses in the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud User Guide.

How do I change my default payment option next time?

You can set any one of these options as your default: American Express, MasterCard, or Visa. The first time you sign into AWS after changing your default setting, we will automatically charge your new default credit card for all new services added to your account. Once a service is attached to an instance (for example, Auto Scaling launches an instance), it cannot be detached until that service is deleted through the console. If a service is attached to an instance and the credit card for that default payment option has been disabled, then any changes to that service will fail.

If you have not already installed DynamoDB Local, then download the server from here. Unzip the downloaded file into a location of your choice (say “C:Program FilesAmazonDynamoDB Local” for example). Open a command prompt as Administrator and run C:Program FilesAmazonDynamoDB Local>dblocal.exe start-server –port 8001 –DB-name testdb Once started, open another browser tab and navigate to http://localhost:8001/ui/index.html. If everything worked fine, you should see an interface similar to that shown in the screenshot below.

To test out DynamoDB Local, I am going to create a table named “sample” with three attributes called “id”, “name” and “age”. Open http://localhost:8001/shell/. This interface provides you with an interactive Java shell that can be used to invoke various methods of the server. Let us first try creating a new table by invoking the createTable() method as shown in the screenshot below by clicking on the down arrow next to “run as” and selecting the createTable() method.

To test out DynamoDB Local, I am going to use Maven. To know how to set up Maven for Eclipse, check this blog post. You can also download the source code for this project from here. Once you have installed all necessary dependencies using Maven in Eclipse as shown below, create a new “Java Project”. This will create an empty project with default settings. Open pom.xml file that gets generated after creating the project in Eclipse. Add amazon-dynamodb-streams-1.0 dependency to it as shown below:

Next, you will need to define some properties required by DynamoDB Local for interacting with AWS Cloud. You can find these properties in C:Program FilesAmazonDynamoDB LocalsupportFilesconfig.properties file on your server instance location defined earlier (in my case it was “C:Program FilesAmazonDynamoDB Local”). By default, dynamodb local create sample tables at runtime for testing purposes; therefore you should change enable testable from true to false. Similarly, change ddbLocalPort from 8001 (default port) to another available port if required.

Next, define the location of the amazon-dynamodb-streams.jar file by updating dependencyManagement closure in pom.xml. In my case, it was located at the “C:Usersanandababu.m2repository” directory. You should update <dependency> elements with the appropriate path to this file as shown below: Now, you are all set up to test out DynamoDB Local using Maven. Run mvn clean install from eclipse console and once build completes successfully, run /bin/local shell to open interactive DB local shell interface and execute createTable() method again as shown below: Note that executing local shell bypasses GitHub checkout which contains dynamodb local sample tables. Therefore, to create a new table in your dynamodb-local installation you should modify the source code and include appropriate property values for access and secret keys as shown below:

Create Table using Java API

You can also use Java API directly to create tables on DynamoDB Local. The following is an example of how it can be done. Create a JAVA project with the name “DynamoDBLocalJavaclient”. Open build.Gradle(Module: app) file under app directory and add amazon-dynamodb-streams-1.0 as a dependency as shown below (follow instructions from section “downloading Maven dependencies” above if you do not already have this dependency)
