How to Delete Gmail Account Permanently
If you want to delete your inactive gmail account because it’s filled with spam, here is a step by step guide:
Step One – Navigate to the Gmail Accounts and Import tab on Google Takeout website (see link below). Click “Next” when ready. Select all of the items that appear under “Inactive Account,” then click Download Archive button at bottom right corner of window. The archived files will be downloaded as a zip file called “[account] archive”. Extract this .zip folder onto your computer desktop or anywhere convenient for storage purposes.
Step Two – Delete the following folders: “Drafts,” “Inbox,” “Sent Mail.” If you would like to delete your spam folder, this can be done by deleting each of its subfolders. To delete a spam message and all messages in that folder, select them by holding down CTRL+Click for Windows or Command + Click for Mac. Then click Move to Trash (this is different from clicking on delete). Once all desired emails are deleted, empty Trash/Trash Bin.
Step Three – Log back into Gmail and navigate to Preferences > General tab within Settings window; under Personalization section, uncheck “Show me as online” box.
Step Four – Log back into Gmail and navigate to Preferences > General tab within Settings window; under Offline section, delete the following: “Enable offline mail,” “Allow idle session for up to” (choose amount of time), and check box next to “When I am not connected.” For best security measure, it is recommended that you delete any remaining messages while still logged in. Once all desired emails are deleted, log off by clicking on Sign Out button located at top right corner of screen.

First of all, if you’ve been inactive on an unused email address for a while (e-mailing yourself once every six months doesn’t count), we recommend closing the account altogether via its settings page by following these steps:

– Click on Mail Sending/Receiving in the left menu bar, then select Close your unused e-mail address from the dropdown list box.
– You will be asked for a reason why you want to close this unused email address; choose “It’s been unused for more than six months.” Now click “Close My Unused E-Mail Address” at the bottom of that screen or hit Enter when it appears as a link text.
